Christmas Spirit

Reporting on my de-scrooging effort, I can say that I did manage to stir up a bit of my Christmas spirit. Having created a spark this year, I plan to fan it into a healthy flame in 2007 – so check back! Meanwhile, I discovered more Christmas music. Look for a music sample on my…

A Generous Spirit

An important part of the Christmas holiday season had always been being full of a spirit of generosity. As I look at what the holidays mean to me now and seek to recapture the magic, I can see that generosity became one of the stumbling blocks for me as I descended into my scroogism. On…

Confessions of a Holiday Scrooge

Best and most difficult part of my week was figuri Best and most difficult part of my week was figuring out how to rescue this adorable 8-week old that appeared outside our apartment building. She was too scared to let me touch her but she wanted to be friends. My bruised knees attest to how long it took to convince her to go for the food bowl in the carrier. Thanks to many failures, I'm now really good at strategically placing small tastes of canned food along a stick to entice her closer and closer. I had to wait until finally the time her head AND ALL four paws went inside to shut the door without her getting away. Had a rope tied to the door* to shut it from a distance, but the winning move was playfully looking at her through the holes in the carrier so she felt safe enough to enter. After vet visit and her safe arrival at a friend's house, I finally got to hold her and was rewarded with sweetest neck nuzzles. 🥰
* Warning: panicked kitten almost immediately got rope wrapped around her neck so plan for quick removal of rope if you try this!

Research is formalized curiosity. It is poking and prying with a purpose. It is a seeking that he who wishes may know the cosmic secrets of the world and they that dwell therein.
