Winter break joys
Today I stumbled on the Barnes & Noble at Furman. I was on a lovely walk through the campus and along the lake when I spied books in the window I was passing. My focus turned from enjoying the beautiful day and creatures along the lake to the alternate delight of the campus bookstore.
As a distance student I had forgotten my old joy of visiting the bookstore at the beginning of each semester. Not only was I excited to discover the books I would be reading that semester, but I would explore the texts for many of the other classes and get tempted to sign up for them. I rarely met a class or a major that I didn’t like and could easily see myself a life-long student – although I often preferred the quick pace of the intense summer or winter format. Browsing through the textbooks today, that old kid-in-a-candy-shop feeling came rushing back. I’m excited to add it to my list of easy to bike to destinations!
I love browsing a good bookstore and running my fingers along the spines of books. Cracking open a fresh book. Ahh, I cannot wait to be a student again.
